| Dr Dipankar Das
Sarma, MLS Chair Professor of Physics at Indian Association for the
Cultivation of Science, has been selected for the prestigious Third World
Academy of Sciences (TWAS) 2006
Prize in Physics for his significant contribution in various aspects of
condensed matter physics. The Council of the Academy decided on this during the
TWAS 10th General Conference & TWAS 17th General Meeting in Angra dos Reis,
Brazil on 2 September. The prize carries a cash award of US$10,000 and a plaque,
which will be presented to him on the occasion of the Academy's 18th General
Conference in a special ceremony in Islamabad next year.

among the highest accolades given to scientists in developing countries. |
| Prof. Das Sarma has recently taken up the MLS Chair Professorship at Indian
Association for the Cultivation of Science on lien from Indian Institute of

Bhatnagar Award, UNESCO Biennial Javed Husain Prize, Sir C V Raman Award, G D
Birla Award, and is a fellow of all three national science academies in
