Research Interest and Publications :

Molecular transition metal chemistry : synthesis, structure, variable valence phenomena and associated reactions of coordination, bioinorganic and organometallic compounds. Has published over three hundred original research papers in major international journals, several review articles and book chapters, and a number of popular articles in English, Bengali and Hindi.

Born June 30, 1935. PhD Calcutta University. Was Research Associate MIT and Harvard University; Professor and Head of the Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur; Professor and Head of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry, IACS; Visiting Professor Texas A & M University; Hindustan Lever Research Professor, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research . Guided fifty-eight PhD's and numerous Postdoctoral Associates; many of the former students have become well known personalities and are doing outstanding work in academic and industrial organizations in India and abroad. Married to Aparna. Son, Ananda and daughter, Shohini.
