Investigation of the properties of soft-matter has become an important area of research because of its interdependence on both biology and materials science. Specifically, research on active soft matter has emerged, in recent times, as a highly dynamic field of investigation resulting from the combined interests of physicists, chemists, biologists and material scientists. We propose to hold a Symposium and School this year (2011) as above, with three themes: Phase ordering & Pattern formation, Biological physics and active matter and Colloids & nano-assembly. The idea is to bring together people for both presentations and discussions, from - statistical mechanics, condensed matter physics, and biological physics. We believe that such endeavors contribute to reduction of intellectual barriers and encourage interdisciplinary research.
