Strongly correlated systems, especially transition-metal oxides, have attracted major interest in condensed matter research. Those systems are characterized by their giant responses arising from competition between different interactions and different phases. Recently, so-called multiferroic materials, in which responses are induced by a non-conjugate stimulus (such as magnetization induced by electric field), have attracted particularly strong interest from both basic science and application points of view. The major purpose of this seminar is to present and discuss about cutting-edge sciences in the field of strongly correlated systems, in particular, of multiferroic oxides among leading scientists from Japan and India. Since both countries have long tradition and outstanding achievement in the studies of transition-metal oxides, it is highly fruitful for material scientists from the two countries to get together and discuss about the most important issues in the following subjects. The participants will be experts in new material synthesis, accurate measurements and advanced theories related to those materials.
